ABOUT LABES

Welcome to the I.G.School of Business / Cyprus College Laboratory for Business, Ethics and Society. The Laboratory engages in critical studying and research in the fields of Business, Ethics and Society. The interdisciplinary composition of LaBES makes it possible to study structures from a number of combined and integrated perspectives in an attempt to provide research and consultations towards:
  • An interaction among business, unions, communities and their social, economic and cultural environment.
  • An emergence of social economy and social entrepreneurship.
  • An active role of cultural industries in the formation of social responsible identity in the 21st century Lifeworld.
  • Ethical and social responses to global, local and international trade.
  • Emerging corporate social responsibility and corporate governance issues.
  • New models of stakeholder engagement towards transparency, sustainability and overall corporate responsibility.
  • An examination of human, social, cultural and emotional capital in relation to gender, diversity, and learning in modern organizations.
  • The ethics of dealing with the Media and non-governmental Organizations(NGO's)

LATEST NEWS

LaBES, in collaboration with Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) has implemented the project “Raising the awareness of Corporate Social Responsibility among SMEs". This project, has jointly managed by EUROCHAMBERS, consists in raising a pan-European awareness on issues of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
The campaign includes one-day events in 29 European Countries, as well as a launch and closing event in Brussels.
The project has aimed to achieve its potential by:
  • Raising awareness about the potential of CSR to support sustainable business.
  • Facilitating a better understanding and management of CSR in particular by SMEs;
  • Facilitating a better knowledge by SMEs of practices, instruments and tools.
The project took place at the CCCI headquarters, Nicosia-Cyprus.
LaBES has been appointed by CCCI in order to provide a pertinent knowledge and experience to the project’s subject, including:
  • A chairperson
  • Key-note speaker
  • Two case studies
  • Two workshops with facilitators and raporteurs

LATEST RESEARCH PROPOSALS

LaBES has submitted to European Science Foundation the "CSR Across Europe:
A Conceptual and Methodical Paradigm of Monitoring and Evaluation of Socially Responsible Business" research project.

The proposed project aims to offer a conceptual and methodological framework that would allow the ongoing monitoring and evaluation of Corporate Social Responsibility across Europe. The overriding purpose is to assist European scholars in the field of Social Sciences in general and at an interdisciplinary level in particular to collaborate and achieve top quality research in the field of CSR. Through the establishment of a network of scholars, joint research actvities will be intiated, something that will ultimately lead to the broadening of the concept of CSR, the opening of innovative areas of application and the promotion/support of constant CSR policy-making strategies.

The results of the proposed program will be made widely available to the European corporate, public and citizens' bodies through publications, dedicated online databases, workshops and seminars. It is envisaged that the propsed program will act as a credible reference for European corporations to operate in a responsible, effective and sustainale fashion.
