LaBES has submitted to European Science Foundation the "CSR Across Europe:
A Conceptual and Methodical Paradigm of Monitoring and Evaluation of Socially Responsible Business" research project.

The proposed project aims to offer a conceptual and methodological framework that would allow the ongoing monitoring and evaluation of Corporate Social Responsibility across Europe. The overriding purpose is to assist European scholars in the field of Social Sciences in general and at an interdisciplinary level in particular to collaborate and achieve top quality research in the field of CSR. Through the establishment of a network of scholars, joint research actvities will be intiated, something that will ultimately lead to the broadening of the concept of CSR, the opening of innovative areas of application and the promotion/support of constant CSR policy-making strategies.

The results of the proposed program will be made widely available to the European corporate, public and citizens' bodies through publications, dedicated online databases, workshops and seminars. It is envisaged that the propsed program will act as a credible reference for European corporations to operate in a responsible, effective and sustainale fashion.
Partners of the LaBES project are:
  • The University of Nyencode / Institite for Responsible Business (Netherlands).
  • The National Centre for Social Research (Greece).
  • The European Institute for Comparative Cultural Research (ERICarts, Germany).
  • Institute Studi Direzionali (ISTUD,Italy).



LaBES faculty frequently participate in debates on economics, geopolitics, communication, sociocultural, organizational and labour market issues. They lecture on these matters, write books/papers and articles for academic Journals and newspapers; They are members of international academic associations and policy institutes as well as they are regularly contracted to carry out cutting-edge reserach.

Furthermore, participants maintain close relationships with professional partners and policy-Makers in order to ensure that the LaBES'activities remain relevant and topical. LaBES group study a large variety of phenomena and processes in a wide array of societies, but the similarities in the groups' theoratical approaches, data collection, research design and analysis form a common framework for the intended research programs. Within this framework, the following main objective points of attention guide the research in the various disciplines:

  • To promote consistency and best practices in corporate social responsibility and governance.
  • To convene a multi-stakeholder dialogue on public measures to support efforts of organizations to take the responsibility and to apply ethics in their operations and prodcution.
  • To devlop transparency codes and frameworks.
  • To encourage adherence to stronger social, cultural, labour and environmental standards of ethics
  • To provide incentive programs for business and labour that build a culture of compliance, equality, cohesion and rationalization.
  • To examine the differences in access to and control over resources affecting peoples' opportunities in workplace and life, such as educational/training level, labour-market success and differences in lifestyle.
  • To study the effect of resources on socio-economic achievement and on how variation between and within states is affected by structural differences and national policies.
  • To examine the extent to which corporate groups show exclusionist attitudes and behaviour towards particular groups.
  • To study the reception and interpretation of corporate representations of social responsibility and ethics by shareholders, stakeholders, consumers and the public.
  • To encourage cooperation and improve effectiveness, such as norms for voluntary CSR disclosure, allinaces among players, database sharing.
  • To provide a forum towards the creation of a critical mass of social enterpreneurs working in all areas of social value generation whose know-how can be drawn upon and supported - individually or collectively by the public private and citizen sectors.
  • To obtain grants for research and studies on pertinent to the LaBES objectives in EU and other bodies.
